Comparing imagery

We were tasked with choosing one of our disturbing images each, before coming together and ranking each of our images in multiple orders. Uncomfortable, ethical, important, vulgar and there opposites, ranking each image in order from Most, to least.

Uncomfortable

 Ethical
 Important
 Vulgar

Uncomfortable: Basing the images purely on looks and not focusing on context we resulted in this order, left to right was uncomfortable to easy

Ethical: Looking more into the context of the images and a similar pattern appeared, the order virtually stayed the same. Having previously looked at the visual impact of the image we guessed that the images all roughly had a similar contextual impact. Left to right ethical to unethical

Important: Again the order stayed the same, with the unethical and uncomfortable imagery being the most important four our group. We did however think that the most trivial imagery are the ones that people react the most to. Things people see everyday and aren’t that important are the things people feel the strongest about. This shows the ignorance most people may have to imagery that the brush over and ignore in favour of pointless issues, usually relatable.

From the group experiments I feel like one of the most important issues id like to follow up on is the ignorance of the general public. From group discussions and looking at various images its clear that people are concerned about the trivial and are numb to important imagery. This is not entirely their fault though. It is hard to relate to something that is not anything to do with you. It is hard to feel sympathy for someone you haven’t met. It is hard to relate to something you don’t see everyday, something you know, something thats constantly a factor. Something on the other side of the world will more than likely be inferior to trivial issues close to home and will feel as important as the distance they are from you.
