Final Application

This is my final design for my Design for Print brief. The MILK+BREAD application is an app that seeks to solve the slightly ironic and privileged problem of coming home to realise you’ve forgotten ‘milk and bread’ or other basic toiletries and food items.

The application allows the user to input basic food items and toiletries they currently have stocked and after a number of logs the application will begin to recognise when and how often items are stocked, and can keep a log of these items, telling you when they’re close to running out, or out of stock and gives you options of nearest supermarkets to your current location as to where to find these ‘out of stock’ items. The application will also have an integrated click and collect system for compatible supermarkets and allow you to pre-order, re-order and pick up on the way home. This feature requires the application to have an integrated card ‘wallet’ that can contain bank cards, loyalty cards and gift vouchers.

The application features a ‘My Cupboard’ section, where all of your current stock you have logged will appear. A ‘Maps’ section which allows you to view all of the closet supermarkets in your area, and search for specific supermarkets and check distance, opening times and if the supermarket supports click and collect. A calendar section with a monthly breakdown of all the stock needing replenishing over the course of the month, highlighted with the red notification icon. A ‘Cards’ section so the user can see all their added cards. They can also add other cards from this section of the app.

The application uses a minimal colour scheme primarily made up of Navy blue, white and grey. The app also uses red for’ important’ notifications and green for ‘open’ or ‘okay’ notifications.

The application uses a relatively flat, minimal design throughout, using tile and button systems for navigation through the app. The application uses consistent buttons, navigation bar, header bar and a custom iconography set throughout to keep the design, layout and feel of the application consistent.

The application is aimed at anyone, generally 18-70 that feels they require this sort of application though is intended for use by students more than any other consumer as the application tackles an issue that after feedback most commonly occurs with students. I felt an application would be the best way to deliver such medium, for portability, ease of use and is always on your device to alert you of important notifications.

The application uses a sans serif typeface consistently throughout the design to compliment the flat, minimal, simple design and to aid legibility on a mobile device.
