Layout Design Research

I looked at various layout designs to try and find inspiration for my own publication. I had the idea in mind that I wanted my publication to negative space heavy, I wanted to the images to stand out on the page to the reader and for me personally I find using negative space does that. The negative space would also contrast the oversaturation theme of the publications content.

Dom Lord's Lisbon Publication.

The graphic design student from the University of Leeds' publication is an incredible example and great use of negative space and layout design. I like the breakdown of colour palette through the imagery, I remember I did a similar think last year with my Pantone publication.

Ara Estudio’s ‘Malta, details’

This publication is again a great use of negative space and layout design, using full bleeds and negative space heavy pages together and it's a great example of how well they work together. I love the washed out feel of the book, using photo editing and certain paperstock i'd love to incorporate this into my own work as it work work great for contrasting the idea of oversaturation running though my publication.

Eesti by Kirill Gluschenko is another really nice example of great use of negative space complimenting full bleeds. The publication does a great job of incorporating type with negative space, especially this double page spread using the Van de Graaf Canon really well.
