The Indie Rock genre came around in the 80’s as a rebellion against mainstream music and its corporate nature at the time. The whole idea of the genre was to do away with the corporate interference, adopting a more DIY, back to basics independent approach to not only the creation of the genres music, but the distribution and production of records and management of themselves and others within the genre.
This article paints a really good picture of the history or ideas behind indie rock and helped me in understanding the genre a little bit more and gave me ideas of how to incorporate the genres ideas into the visual identity of the band.
The idea of an independent, do it yourself, homemade style was something interesting, important and something I wanted to replicate and communicate through my work.
