It was important to research into not only design trends and the genre but also the band itself, especially their current visual identity.
The band originates from York and consistent of 4 members, vocalist Rob Scarisbrick, guitarist Turnbull Smith, bassist Jonny Scarisbrick and drummer Myles Soley. The band are huge Leeds United fans, which can be seen across their visual identity and their presence on social media. The band are influenced by iconic bands such as Oasis, the Verve and The Sex Pistols.
The band have most of the bases covered in terms of social media, being most active on Instagram and Twitter and having music outlets on Soundcloud, Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music. They also have two music videos currently live on Youtube for their songs What You Are, and their biggest track, YRA.
The band have been featured on BBC Radio 1’s introducing and have rave reviews that can be found across the internet and are currently gearing up for a gig at the Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen in Leeds, as a result of their recent success and new management deal with Marone Inc.
The visual identity of the band is relatively basic, with a consistent logotype across all contexts but nothing more solid beyond that. Their album covers adorn the same logotype and track names in the same typeface, with the same low quality cover image being used across multiple singles. Their Instagram and twitter AVI’s use the same logotype on top of an image of old Leeds United Forward Luciano Becchio, celebrating with fans. Although the image is iconic for Leeds United fans, the inconsistency of usage across all platforms hinders their potential to be recognised on a wider scale across all platforms.
It’s clear that there is a consistent use of the logotype across all platforms already, so implementing a new logotype to work across all platforms wouldn’t be difficult to achieve, the band are already aware of online presence the importance of consistency. Their poster designs need work and need a clear design style that they can call their own. In their own admission the only consistency again is the bands logotype and the rest has been put together on a basic mobile application with not much thought for consistency or design style.
