Blank Poster Exhibition
One of the first projects I looked at was the Blank Poster exhibition. The exhibition is a submission based exhibition that focuses around a certain word with each exhibition, people then submit their own designs which are displayed on the Blank Poster site and any physical exhibitions such as their physical exhibition at The North Norwegian Centre for Design in 2016. The exhibition is a really simple, clear idea that allows itself to be incredibly broad. The idea of an exhibition that is relies on creatives’ submissions is amazing and a really great way of collaborating with people on mass. I love the idea of an exhibition that is made up of public submissions, the idea is cool and can be a really good way of bringing people and creatives together. The broad range of potential outcomes with a format such as this allows people to be as creative as possible, with the word being able to be interpreted in anyway the creative wishes.
The branding for the exhibition is incredibly simple. Its stripped back, basic and makes sure it doesn’t take away from the pieces on show.
The branding helps celebrate the submission pieces and allows the viewer to concentrate on those rather than a brand that tries to fight with its content for visibility.
I really want to take the idea of a submission based exhibition and see what we can make of it. I love the stripped back approach and would love to create a brand that is indented to hold and present its content much like a physical gallery space and doesn’t try and clutter/fight with the content it displays.
Transient Space Exhibition
Another exhibition I looked at was the Transient Space exhibit that ive also visited (2). The exhibition focuses around the idea that the exhibition has no physical, actual exhibition space and is rather displayed in an ordinary environment. The theme of the exhibit was ‘Disruption’ and is a series of still and animated pieces that are projected onto the walls of inside the atrium of the Manchester school of art building. The curator of the exhibition Adam Griffiths also came into university for a workshop on the subject of the exhibition.
The idea of an exhibition that has no physical space is something that would be interesting to develop and work with. The exhibition has no dedicated online platform with the closest being the curators Instagram, however the exhibition is not the focal point of the account. The exhibition lives through public documentation, geo-tagging and posting and the idea that an exhibition can be viewed or curated online via other people is an idea that I might like to try and incorporate into my own work.
Glass Room Exhibition Pop Up
I came across an exhibition by Stefanie Vermeersch. The project is a pop up version of the Glass Room exhibition based in London. The pop up version shows some of the best pieces of the original exhibition in a really unique way. The exhibition showcases the pieces in a 'pop-up' flat pack style, using over the top, DIY exhibit stands, signage and seating.
The idea of a pop-up style exhibition that can be taken around and exhibited in different locations is a really good one. To be able to showcases the submission pieces of our exhibition across different locations and different dates is a really cool possibility.
