Primary and Secondary Shoots

I decided to go out and shoot my images using a DSLR and with a wide angle lens. My initial shoot was primarily to get a feel for shooting in nighttime conditions and shooting neon and how my my images would turn out with various constraints neon brings such as the ambient lighting it radiates, the wiring behind the neon signage and the various objects and environments surrounding the neon signage.

I went around and focused more on shop fronts and signage inside for this shoot, not only because I had this shoot in mind as a test, but the night became quite bust round the various bars and shops I was shooting in and around and I didn't want too many people, or any at all in my shots.

My Secondary shoot was a better, smoother shoot that was meant to go over any issues I had to deal with in the previous shoot, correcting those errors and capturing any more imagery I found interesting. I focused more on the indoor shots this time, as this time i'd gone out just as it became dark, before people would really start to fill up the various places I was looking to shoot.

I mainly looked for ambiance during my shoot, any signage that gave off a vibe. I looked for chill vibes, warm vibes, cool vibes, neon signage that was in your face or just really bad. I tried my best to create these pieces in as beautiful a way as possible as was the aim for my documentation.  I guess I looked for emotion in my imagery too, or at least any signage that could be interpreted as an emotion, or linked to emotion, whether that be the lighting it gave off, the colour of the signage, the location or how the light hit a subject or object. This is not a theme that I'm wanting to make obvious in my publication, but one I want to see if readers notice or pick up on. I like the idea of a hidden theme in the publication and the idea that the context of the imagery is really upto the readers own interpretation after looking past the base theme of over-saturation.
